My first study. I still like it! :)It features a theme I call "virtual stalemate". White gets into a stalemate position but paradoxically wins (!) because black is to move, and - due to a mutual zugzwang - it has to release white's pieces. This idea has brought me from composing problems to endgame studies. Don't miss the second mainline starting with 5...Re7 and an echo play.I guess the judge was not impressed by the starting position with quadruple black pawns and blocked pieces. 😀
